INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Six student athletes from the University of Wyoming Track & Field Teams qualified for the West First Rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Sacramento, Calif., starting on Wednesday May 24th.
The top 48 declared athletes from each region qualify for the event. Katelyn Mitchem was the lone Cowgirl to get her name in the field. Mitchem will be the only Wyoming athlete to compete in two events next week as she qualified in ninth for the Steeplechase and in 37th for the 5K.
Seth Bruxvoort, Cameron Burkett, Ryker Holtzen, Kareem Mersal and Jacob White will all represent the Brown & Gold for the Cowboys. Bruxvoort and Holtzen in the Steeplechase as Bruxvoort qualified in 40th while Holtzen ranks 16th amongst the competition. Burkett, the freshman from Casper Wyo., qualified in 32nd for the Shot Put, Mersal 16th in the Long Jump and White in 36th for the 5K.
Bruxvoort and Holtzen will start Wyoming off with the Steeplechase semis on Wednesday in California, slated to be run at 7:02 PST. The top 24 in the event will move on the finals that will be ran on Friday at 8:24. Mersal and Burkett will follow the distance runners with their events scheduled for 8 and 8:30 respectively.
Mitchem will run the first of her two events on Thursday with the semis of the Steeplechase at 8:02, followed by the finals of the Steeplechase at 8:24 on Saturday and then one of the final events of the completion, the 5K on Saturday at 9:55.
White will race on Friday evening at 9:55.

Mitchem holds outdoor records at Wyoming in the 1500, Steeplechase and 5K as all were set this season. Mersal owns the Long Jump school record while Holtzen and White moved up to No. 2 on the list in their respective events. In his first season, Burkett ranks No. 6 all time in the Shot Put.
The top 12 in both regions will move on to the 2023 NCAA Track & Field National Championships to be hosted in Austin Texas, from June 7th through the 10th.
