LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 30, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team looks to continue its strong start to the Mountain West slate as it travels down to Fort Collins for a pair of neutral-site matchups. The Cowgirls will face Nevada Saturday before matching up with San Jose State Sunday. Both matches are slated for 10 a.m., starts.

It was a newsworthy week for Wyoming (7-8, 2-0 MW) who entered the ITA Top-75 National Rankings, entering the week ranked No. 73 in the nation. It marks the first time since the end of the 2015 season that the Cowgirls have been ranked. Individually, Violetta Borodina was named the Mountain West's Freshman of the Week after her strong performance in Fresno to open league action. Borodina clinched the Cowgirls' epic comeback win over Fresno State, who was ranked 67th at the time. UW, who was trailing 3-0, rallied to win four consecutive singles matches to win the dual, which was bookended by Borodina's come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (10-8) win. Borodina and her doubles partner, Maria Oreshkina, also won both of their doubles matchups over the weekend and have now won seven-straight as a tandem.

In their 4-1 win over then-No. 42 ranked Colorado State to begin MW play, the Cowgirls won the doubles point and then picked up three singles victories. Coming into the weekend, Nikol Dobrilova leads Wyoming with nine dual singles victories while Borodina is second on the squad with eight wins. On the doubles side of things, Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender are tied for the team lead with Borodina and Oreshkina with eight wins each.

Last season, the Cowgirls earned 4-1 wins over both Nevada and San Jose State in neutral-site contests. The win over Nevada also came in Fort Collins. The Wolfpack enter Saturday's match at 6-4 overall and 1-1 in league play after splitting last weekend's contests, losing at Boise State and defeating Utah State. Nevada is 1-0 in neutral matches in 2023. SJSU, meanwhile, is 7-6 and won both its league-openers last weekend over Boise and Utah State. The Spartans are in 2-1 this season in neutral-site matchups.
