LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 23, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team travels to the state of Nebraska for a pair of weekend matchups. The Cowgirls face Kansas City at 2:30 p.m., MT Saturday in a neutral-site matchup before closing the weekend Sunday at 9 a.m., against host-Nebraska.
Wyoming (3-5) is coming off a 7-0 victory over MSU Denver last Saturday in Laramie, moving the Cowgirls' home record to 2-0 on the season. This weekend kicks off a stretch of four consecutive matches for UW away from home.
The Cowgirls rallied in their win over MSU Denver to take the doubles point in the contest. Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova came from behind in their 7-5 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot to secure the point for Wyoming. Ana Fernandez and Lucia Malinak were victorious 6-4 at the third doubles position to help UW win doubles. In singles action, Maria Oreshkina at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3), Brink at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), Fernandez at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4) and Malinak at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2) all won in straight sets. Dobrilova was victorious 3-6, 6-2 and 10-8 at the third position as she rallied for the win. Violetta Borodina won via retirement at the fourth spot but was leading 3-0 in the second set after winning the first, 6-2.
Kansas City enters Saturday with a 4-7 mark on the season and is 1-2 in neutral contests. The Roos faced Mountain West opponent UNLV last week, losing 4-0. Nebraska, meanwhile, has an impressive 7-1 record in 2023, with all matches coming in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers' lone loss this season came at the hands of Colorado State.
