LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Cross Country Teams are headed to Boise, Idaho for the 2023 Mountain West Cross Country Championships to be ran on Friday October 27th.
The 2023 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Boise State at Eagle Island State Park. The men's 8k race will start at 10:15 a.m. MT, while the women's 6k race begins at 11 a.m. MT. Both championship races will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls have raced three times this season leading up to the conference championships. Starting out with the Wyoming Invite and finishing up the pre-conference slate at Pre-Nationals in Virginia the Cowgirls have been paced by Abigail Whitman in both 6K races while Kylie Simshauser led the Wyoming women to a second place finish at the 5K Wyoming Invite. The Cowboys have been led by Mason Norman twice including his Wyoming Invite win while Jacob White led the Pokes in Virginia. White earned All-Mountain West honors for his performance at last years championships hosted in Laramie.
Head Cross Country Coach Scott Dahlberg said, "We were happy overall with the progress we made as a team from Griak to Pre-Nationals and are looking forward to seeing that growth continue into conference. We have some athletes gaining confidence racing at new levels and that will help set the tone. It's a smaller field of teams at conference than the last two meets but still very competitive with multiple teams either currently ranked or have been ranked during the year. It looks like there will be some tight battles for team placement in both races tomorrow and we want to put ourselves in places to compete."
