CANCUN, Mexico (Sept. 14, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team opened fall play down in Mexico at the Princess Resorts College Cup. The Cowgirls won all eight of their matches in dual-play formatting, defeating both Southeastern Louisiana and Omaha.
The Cowgirls opened with an impressive 4-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana to begin play. At the number one singles spot, Sophie Zehender took an 8-5 win and at the No. 2 position, Ana Fernandez won 8-6. In doubles play, UW picked up two more victories as the tandem of Nikol Dobrilova and Lucia Malinak won 8-5 at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Serina Abriola and Noesjka Brink also won 8-5.
Against Omaha, Wyoming was once again successful as Dobrilova was up in her singles match, 4-1 before an injury default while Malinak took care of business, 8-6. On the doubles side, the team of Fernandez and Zehender won 8-3 and Abriola and Brink won 8-4.
UW returns to action Thursday where it will once again play SE Louisiana and Omaha.
