LARAMIE, Wyo. (April 19, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team travels across the Colorado border this week for its final two regular season matchups of the season. The Cowgirls face Border Rival Colorado State April 21 before closing the 2022 regular season with an April 22 matchup against Nevada. Both contests are slated to begin at 1 p.m.

UW (10-11, 4-4 MW) was masterful last weekend in its final two home matches of the season. The Cowgirls swept the first four singles matches against Utah State to clinch a 4-1 victory over the Aggies Friday. Wyoming followed that up with a 4-0 win over Boise State the next day. Maria Oreshkina (No. 1), Sophie Zehender (No. 2) and Ida Krause (No. 4) all went 2-0 in singles play last week, with Krause clinching the victory for the Cowgirls on both days. Lucia Malinak also picked up a three-set win at the No. 3 spot against USU.

Zehender improved to a team-best 11-3 overall this spring and is now 6-1 in league play. Krause and Oreshkina also reached double-digit wins during dual play last week and picked up their third and fourth conference victories. Oreshkina now has eight wins this spring at the No. 1 singles spot.

Saturday was Senior Day at 7220 as Krause and Mihaela Kaftanova were honored prior to the match against the Broncos. The duo played their final home matches last week as Cowgirls.

Colorado State enters Thursday's contest with a 12-7 mark overall this spring and is 6-2 in league play. The Rams are 2-0 at home in 2022, both non-conference contests. The Cowgirls and CSU didn't meet last season, and last faced one another in 2019, a 4-2 CSU victory to close the regular season.

Nevada comes into the weekend with an 8-8 record and is 2-5 in conference play. The Wolf Pack are 0-2 in neutral-site matchups this season. The Cowgirls swept Nevada last season in Laramie. Nevada's two league wins in 2022 have come against New Mexico and Utah State.

This weekend closes the regular season for Wyoming. Next week, the Cowgirls begin Mountain West Tournament play beginning April 27 in Tucson, Ariz., at the El Conquistador Tucson. Next week will be the first time the league tournament has been held since 2019.
