LARAMIE, Wyo. (April 16, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team closed its 2022 home slate and Senior Day in style as the Cowgirls swept Boise State, 4-0, Saturday in Laramie. The Cowgirls won the hotly-contested doubles point before winning the first three singles matches on the day to come away with the win.

Doubles play was intense inside the Laramie Tennis Complex as the Broncos (7-5, 3-4 MW) won at No. 3 doubles to take the early lead. However, UW (10-11, 4-4 MW) would rally at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the point. First, at the second position, the team of Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender came away with a 6-4 win. Then at the first spot, Ida Krause and Maria Oreshkina won a tight 7-5 match, to secure the win for the Cowgirls.

On the singles side of play, Wyoming won the first two matches in convincing fashion as Oreshkina opened with a quick 6-2 and 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot. Following that, it was Zehender's turn to win in straight sets as she tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win at the second position, giving the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead in the match.

For the second consecutive day, Krause clinched things for the Cowgirls, again in three sets as she rebounded from a second set loss to win, 6-1, 4-6 and 6-2 to clinch on her Senior Day. Prior to Saturday's match, Krause and fellow senior, Mihaela Kaftanova were honored as the duo played for their final time in Laramie.

Wyoming will hit the road one final time next week to close the regular season. The Cowgirls will make the trip across the border to face Colorado State at 1 p.m., April 21 before closing the regular season with a 1 p.m., contest against Nevada April 22 in Fort Collins.
