WALNUT, California — A group of University of Wyoming Track & Field distance runners and throwers continued a three-day week of action in California for the Cowboys and Cowgirls at the Mt. SAC Relays, Long Beach Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday night.
On the track, the distance runners were in action highlighted by a big performance from
Katelyn Mitchem at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Competing in the 1500M "invitational" race, Mitchem had a strong performance clocking a personal best time of 4:22.58 besting her old time by almost two seconds finishing 47
th amongst a loaded field of over 100 athletes. With the new personal best time Mitchem remains in third all-time in program history.
Kaylee Kearse competed in the 1500M "A" race clocking a time of 4:31.69 moving her into the UW all-time top ten taking the tenth spot and finishing 26
th overall. On the men's side,
Joseph Rodgers and
Asefa Wetzel both ran in the men's "A" 1500m finishing 90
th and 120
th respectively.
At the Mt. SAC Relays,
Albert Steiner and
Mason Norman both took to the track for the men's 5000M. Steiner led the way for the Pokes finishing 31
st with a time of 14:20.94 while Norman finished 35
th with a time of 14:36.28
Nathan Reid provided one of the biggest highlights of the day in the field events with a second-place finish in the men's discus at the Bryan Clay invitational competing against a field that featured 47 athletes competing. Reid earned the runner-up finish with a personal best mark of 180-11 which ranks tenth on the all-time top ten list.
Tarique George and
Mikey DeRock were also in action finishing 10
th and 25
th respectively. In the women's discus,
Cosette Stellern represented the brown and gold well recording a toss of 148-3 to earn herself a seventh-place finish amongst the field of 53 competitors.
Competing in the women's hammer throw at the Long Beach Invitational, two Cowgirls earned top 15 finishes competing against a field of 55 athletes.
Mary Carbee was the top Wyoming finisher taking tenth with a toss of 189-7.
Addison Henry finished just behind her in 14
th with a throw of 184-4.
Giulia Lodi was in action in the women's javelin finishing 31
st with a throw of 125-10 while
Daniel Carrillo finished 43
rd in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 167-2.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will wrap up competition in California tomorrow with the conclusion of the Mt. SAC Relays and the Long Beach Invitational.
