WALNUT, California — A group of University of Wyoming Track & Field distance runners started the three-day week of action in California for the Cowboys and Cowgirls at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday night.
Turning in one of the best performances of the evening, Leah Christians ran a 34:14.69 in the 10K. In addition to taking 11th place amongst elite competition Christians vaulted into the UW all-time Top 10 list at No. 2 all time with her performance.
Seven student athletes competed in the 3,000M Steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays on the men's and women's side. Katelyn Mitchem finished atop amongst the three Cowgirls running with a time of 10:25.55. Good for 11th place, Mitchem set a PR and improved her time that was already good for No. 3 all-time on the UW Top 10 list. Kaylee Kearse wrapped up her night in 49th place with a time of 11:00.74 to move up to No. 6 all time at UW passing teammate Anna Spear. Spear who now sits at No. 8 all time ran a 11:09.21 for a 54th place finish.
For the men, Seth Bruxvoort led the way running an 8:56.42 for 16th place. Bruxvoort moves into No. 10 at UW. Albert Steiner (9:03.32, 32nd), Josh Rodgers (9:12.40, 49th) and Mason Norman (9:18.40, 57th) all competed in the event as well.
To finish up the evening Abigail Whitman in the Collegiate running of the 10K at the Mt. SAC Relays ran a 35:18.32 for a 24th place finish. Like Christians, Whitman enters the Top 10 list at UW with her performance. Now sits at No. 5 all time.
Over at the Bryan Clay Invitational Kylie Simshauser and Gus McIntrye competed in the 5K. Simshauser ran a 17:11.43 for 8th place in her heat while McIntyre ran a 14:17.69 for 9th place in his heat.
The week continues Friday with more distance running and the throwers getting in on the action. Steiner and Norman will get back at it at the Mt. Sac Relays with the 5K while Mitchem, Kearse and Asefa Wetzel will all run the 1500 at the Bryan Clay to wrap up the distance for the week. Mikey DeRock, Tarique George, Nathan Reid and Cosette Stellern will throw at the Bryan Clay Invitational with Daniel Carrillo, Mary Carbee, Addison Henry and Giulia Lodi will kick things off at the Long Beach Invitational.
