Ewa Beach, Hawaii (March 7, 2022) – The University of Wyoming Women's golf team completed the first two rounds of play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Monday playing at the Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Two Cowgirls finished the day inside the top 20 while the Cowgirls sit in ninth as a team with one round left to play. 
 
"This is a course that really challenges all aspects of your game and rewards aggressive shot making." Head Women's Golf Coach Josey Stender said, "Sam and Jess's rounds to start the day were fantastic and Meghan had a nice comeback in round two. I think if we can come out and commit to our lines while getting a few more putts to drop we can have a chance to move up tomorrow." 
 
Samantha Hui had an outstanding first day of competition opening the tournament with a first round of 73 (+1), the lowest score by any cowgirl on the day, and followed that up with a second-round score of 77 (+5) putting Hui in a tie for 13^th after the first day of competition. Jessica Zapf also had a solid first day posting a two-round score of 152 (+8) to finish day on in a tie for 20^th. The freshman duo of Meghan Vogt and Kyla Wilde finished the day tied for 38^th and 42^ndwith scores of 156 (+12) and 157 (+13) respectively. Sitting just behind them, Cristiana Ciasca rounds out the Cowgirl lineup currently tied for 54^th.
 
Morgan Ryan was also in action on Monday as the lone individual competitor for the Cowgirls. Ryan posted a two-round score of 163 (+19) on the day which is good enough for 51^st with one round left to play. 
 
The Cowgirls finished day one in ninth in the team standings with a score of 615 (+39) sitting well ahead of tenth place Gonzaga and 11 strokes back of eighth place Long Beach State. Hawaii holds onto first place after day one sitting one stroke ahead of Sacramento State. 
 
The Cowgirls are back in action tomorrow to wrap up the tournament with the final 18 holes of play set to tee off 10:45 a.m. MT.
