FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (3/7/22) – The 2022 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships commenced Monday inside Wall Aquatic Center. The University of Wyoming had a total of four divers participate.
Junior
Melissa Mirafuentes led the way for the Cowgirls on Day 1. She placed 18th in prelims, compiling a score of 260.65. Senior
McKenna Houlihan took 31st with a score of 237.50, while freshman
Gabriella Hagler finished 53rd with a final tally of 196.40.
Mirafuentes vaulted up the leaderboard in finals. She checked in at No. 15 after accumulating 529.20 points.
Sophomore
Juan Gonzalez paced the Cowboys. He finished 19th in prelims after racking up 283.10 points.
"We practiced really well leading up to the event," diving head coach
Ted Everett said. "The highlight was Melissa making the final and moving up from 18th to 15th. I feel like the excitement and the nerves may have caught up with us a bit. Hopefully, we can regroup tomorrow and have a better day."
The meet continues Tuesday with the women competing on 3-meter and the men on platform.
