Shayla Howell Qualifies For 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

NEW ORLEANS, La. — University of Wyoming Track & Field student athlete Shayla Howell has qualified to compete in the Long Jump at the 2022 NCAA Division One Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Birmingham, Ala., from March 11-12. 

Coming off a first place finish at the 2022 Mountain West Indoor Championships and a new Wyoming all-time mark, Howell will be the first Wyoming athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoors since Ja'la Henderson competed at the Championships in 2019 in the Triple Jump. 

The Junior from Colony, Wyo., has qualified in 10th amongst the 16 competitors in the Long Jump with her mark of 6.52M. The top spot on the qualifying list belongs to Jasmine Moore from the University of Florida. Moore has a top mark of 6.75M. 

Howell is the lone competitor in the Long Jump field from the Mountain West Conference. The full qualifying list can be found at USTFCCCA.org

The meet will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, from March 11-12.
