ATLANTA, Georgia (3/19/22) – University of Wyoming's
Melissa Mirafuentes closed her NCAA championships Saturday similar to how she opened it. The junior diver qualified to the consolation finals of platform en route to garnering her second honorable mention All-American award in as many days.
"Today was a bit of a roller coaster ride," diving head coach
Ted Everett said. "Melissa needed a really good dive to put her in position to make the consolation finals, and she saved her best for last. I'd prefer a less stressful, less pressure-packed prelims, but I'll take it when all is said and done."
Mirafuentes tallied 271.4 points in prelims to place her 13th. She scored 251.40 points in the consolation finals to end up 15th.
Mirafuentes also reeled in All-American honors Friday after her performance in the 3-meter event. This marks the first time Mirafuentes – who entered this year's NCAA championships as a two-time All-American – scored points in a pair of events on this stage.
This represents the conclusion of Wyoming's swimming & diving schedule this season.
