Birmingham, Ala. – Shayla Howell took center stage with the 16 best Long Jumpers in the country and finished 14th to earn Second-Team All American honors on Friday evening at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

Howell went 20-5 on her third and final jump of the night cementing her 14th place finish and taking home the first indoor All-American Honors of her Cowgirl Career. With her performance, she now has the distinction of earning All-American Honors in both I Indoor and Outdoor competition. Howell is the first Wyoming athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor championships since Ja'la Henderson competed in the triple jump in 2019.

"Shayla had a great indoor campaign this year. She elevated herself to one of the best collegiate jumpers in the nation and has performed as such on the greatest stage." Associate Head Coach Quincy Howe said, "Even though she came up short in the goal of a podium finish, I am so proud of how she competed and her earning second team All-American."

For Howell, her All-American finish caps off an incredible indoor season for the Junior from Colony, Wyoming. In the lead, up to the NCAA Indoor Championships Howell set a new program record twice in just six competitions. At the Indoor Mountain West Championships, she went 21-4.75 to set a new school record and earn her first MW Indoor title of her career.

Howell and the rest of the Wyoming Track and Field squad will now change focus and begin preparing for the outdoor season.
