LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 18, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team opens its 2022 home slate this Sunday, February 20 as MSU Denver comes to town for a 1 p.m., contest. It will be the first of six home events this spring for the Cowgirls.
UW (4-6) went a perfect 4-0 at home last season, marking the fourth time in program history and third under Head Coach Dean Clower, that the Cowgirls finished with a perfect home record while playing at least four or more matches at home. Wyoming recently had its three-match winning streak snapped last Sunday at Kansas. The Jayhawks defeated the Cowgirls in a pair of matches, 4-0 and 5-1.
In the second match against KU, Maria Oreshkina picked up a 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3 victory over nationally-ranked Malkia Ngounoue of Kansas. The win gave Oreshkina her fifth dual singles' victory of the season, which is the second-most on the team.
The Roadrunners enter Sunday with a 1-2 mark overall and have recently played Air Force, Colorado State and New Mexico in exhibition contests. Sunday will be MSU Denver's first true road match of the season. Ava Neuburger-Higby is a perfect 3-0 in dual action this season to lead the Roadrunners.
