PALM DESERT, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2022) – The University of Wyoming Women's Golf team kicked off their spring schedule on Monday with the first two rounds of play at the Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, California. The Cowgirls split their first two matches of the tournament picking up a win over CSUB.

Josey Stender said, "They played fantastic, learned a lot from the morning and rebounded well in the afternoon match. Morgan and Jess came in clutch today with solid wins and are looking forward to another competitive match tomorrow"
In the first match of the day, fourth seeded Wyoming went up against fifth seeded Cal State Fullerton.
Jessica Zapf had a solid first round of play building up a lead against Haruka Koda ending the match early with a three-hole advantage with two to play. The other Cowgirl to pick a win in the first round was
Morgan Ryan. Ryan faced off against Lisa Djerf in a match that came down to the final hole. Ryan came up clutch on the final hole of play to defeat Djerf by one, but the Cowgirls fell to the Titans, 2-3.
In the second match of the day the Cowgirls went up against the eight seeded CSUB Roadrunners and picked up their first win of the tournament. Zapf continued her strong day with an impressive win over Gillian Galicia building up a seven-hole advantage with five to play to end the match early. Ryan also finished the day 2-0 winning her second match 4&3.
Samantha Hui sealed the victory for the Cowgirls defeating her opponent 2&1 to give Wyoming the 3-2-0 win.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the tournament tomorrow morning with the final round of play against third seeded Utah Valley. The final round of play is set to begin at 8 a.m. MT tomorrow morning.
