LARAMIE, Wyo. (2/1/22) – The University of Wyoming divers are back in action this week. The Cowboys and Cowgirls travel to the Air Force Diving Invite, which spans from Thursday to Saturday inside the Cadet Natatorium.

It's another road meet for Wyoming, which has traveled to UCLA and UNLV in the past few weeks, but it won't feel like one. A few times each year, UW uses Cadet Natatorium to practice on platform, giving it a level of comfort in Colorado Springs.

"It's kind of like a second home for them," diving head coach Ted Everett said. "Getting used to that environment will not be a challenge."

This meets represents the final competition of the regular season for the divers. Therefore, it will provide one final tune up before the Mountain West Conference championships and the Western Athletic Conference championships.

"It will be very similar to what we will have at our conference meet," Everett said. "It really gives us an opportunity to be in that type of a competition, prelims and finals, so it will be a really good dress rehearsal."

The field at Air Force will include teams from the PAC-12 and the SEC, meaning Wyoming will be tested by some of the very best the country has to offer. That's an opportunity a diver such as junior Melissa Mirafuentes – a two-time All-American – will enjoy.

"She raises her game a little bit, and that's good," Everett said. "Melissa has that gear, and I think now she's coming into her own. This will be a good test."

The Invite will feature all three competitions – 1-meter, 3-meter and platform. It will also include the team competition that Wyoming took part in at the UCLA Diving Invite.

The team event involves each of the three divers competing on one board. The scores are combined at the conclusion of the team event for one final score.
