SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team fought hard on the road Saturday at San Jose State, but ultimately it was not enough, as the Spartans bested Wyoming in four sets. After the Cowgirls won the first set, 25-22, SJSU responded to take the next three, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-19.
UW was led by Corin Carruth offensively as she had 10 kills and hit .304 in the loss. Tierney Barlow and Nay Shimé added eight and seven, respectively while Sarah Holcomb and Rylee Schulz tallied five each. As a team, the Cowgirls (10-16, 6-8 MW) were held to a .150 hitting percentage while the Spartans (18-6, 12-2 MW) hit .240 on the day.
San Jose State had slim edge in service aces (9-8) and team blocks (13-10) in the contest. The Cowgirls were led at the net by Barlow and Holcomb's five blocks each while Carruth added four. Kasia Partyka led the way with a career-high four service aces while Skylar Erickson and Kendal River had two each. Partyka led the Cowgirls with 29 assists in the loss. In the back row, libero Hailey Zuroske and Schulz led the Cowgirls with nine digs each.
With the loss, Wyoming moves into a three-way tie for fifth in the Mountain West standings with two weeks left in the regular season. The top six teams advance to the Mountain West Tournament Thanksgiving week in Fort Collins. This week was the Brown & Gold's final full week on the road as the Cowgirls play three of their final four matches at home. UW opens its two-game home week Thursday, November 10 as Air Force comes to Laramie.
