LOS ANGELES, Calif. (1/16/22) – The University of Wyoming divers completed competition at the Bruin Diving Invite Sunday at Speicker Aquatic Center. Junior Melissa Mirafuentes highlighted the day with a strong performance in platform.

"I was happily surprised with our performance this weekend," diving head coach Ted Everett said. "This meet is really difficult – from the elements to the high-caliber competition to the difficult judging to the inconsistent training we had. This meet had all the adversity you could ask for, and the kids did a really great job."

Mirafuentes took second with a season-best score of 298. Freshman Gabriella Hagler also set a personal best of 206 to place 14th, while senior McKenna Houlihan finished 17th.

Juan Gonzalez led the men's side with a fifth-place spot in the 1-meter event. Senior Brendan Byrnes eclipsed the necessary score for the NCAA Zone meet en route to an eighth-place finish.

"Everyone showed some maturity and composure in their diving beyond what I thought they could this weekend" Everett said. "The best part to me is that we were successful and we still have significant amount of work to do before our conference meets and beyond."

In the meantime, the next meet is a dual at UNLV at the end of the month.
