LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 25, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team concludes its three-match road trip Saturday with a 10 a.m., match at Northern Arizona. The Cowgirls are coming off a come-from-behind 4-3 victory last Saturday at Creighton.

Wyoming's (4-3) win at Creighton last weekend was its first true road victory of the season. The Cowgirls won 4-of-6 singles matches against the Bluejays to secure the win. Sophie Zehender, whose victory at the No. 2 spot, broke a 3-3 tie in the match and claimed the victory for UW.

For her efforts, Zehender was named the Mountain West's Female Tennis Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday by the league office. Zehender, along with partner Ana Fernandez, also won at the No. 2 doubles position against Creighton, winning 7-6 (7-5). It is the first time this season that Wyoming has received a weekly honor from the league.

Fernandez at No. 3, Noesjka Brink at No. 4 and Lucia Malinak at No. 5 also picked up singles victories against the Bluejays. Brink improved to 3-1 in singles play with the win while Malinak's victory was her first career singles win as a Cowgirl.

Northern Arizona enters Saturday with a 3-3 mark overall, including a perfect 3-0 mark at home. The Cowgirls and Lumberjacks last met in March of 2019, a 4-1 win for Wyoming. UW is 3-4 all-time against NAU.

Following Saturday at NAU, Wyoming will host its first home match since the spring of 2019 as Weber State comes to Laramie March 5 for a 3 p.m., contest.
