SEAL BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2021) – Sophomore
Cristiana Ciasca led the way for the Wyoming Cowgirl Golf Team as it opened up the first day of the 2021 Gold Rush Tournament on Monday. After 36 holes, the Cowgirls sit 61-over with a total score of 637.
Ciasca completed her first round with a 6-over 78 to place 25
th to begin the day. She followed that up with a second round of five-over 77 to currently sit in a tie for 25th. Freshman
Jessica Zapf had a solid first round carding a score of 9-over 81 followed by sophomore
Samantha Hui who tied her with a score of 9-over 81. Zapf went six-over 78 for a two round total of 15-over 159 while Hui finished with a two round total of 16-over 160.
"Today was a real grind of mental and physical focus," head coach
Josey Stender said. "I felt we played better than we scored. The course demands all areas of your game to be precise or you are penalized. I'm proud of the ladies to fight hard and know we will have to finish better tomorrow."
Senior
Caitlyn Skavdahl completed her first round with a 10-over 82 while finishing her day with a two round total of 19-over 163. Fellow senior
Erin Sargent was 83, 11-over during her first round and recorded a scored round score of 84 for a combined total of 23-over 167. Competing as an individual, freshman
Morgan Ryan finished with a 28-over 172 score after two rounds.
USC leads the field at four-over (+580) followed by UNLV at 21-over (597). Fresno State is in third place with a score of 31-over (607).
The tournament is being played at the par-72 6,218-yard Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. Wyoming will tee off for the tournament's final round tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. MT.
