LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 11, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will hit the road this weekend for the first match of a three-match road swing over the next three Saturdays, as the Cowgirls travel to face Pac-12 foe Colorado in an 11 a.m., match in Boulder.
The three consecutive road matches comes before UW hosts its first home match since 2019 as Weber State will come to town Match 5. The Cowgirls (3-2) are looking for their first true road victory of the season, having lost earlier this year at Tulsa and Oklahoma. UW is a perfect 3-0 in neutral-site matches thus far in 2021.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 6-1 victory last Sunday over West Alabama down in McComb, Mississippi. UW won five-of-six singles matches and swept all three in doubles play to earn the doubles point against the Lions. The doubles team of Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender moved to 4-0 as a tandem this spring with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles against UWA. Zehender also got a singles victory at the No. 1 spot as she beat Manseri of West Alabama, 6-3 and 6-3. Maria Oreshkina (No. 2), Fernandez (No. 4) and Ida Krause (No. 6) also picked up straight-set wins in last week's match.
Colorado enters Saturday's matchup boasting a 3-1 mark on the young season. The Buffaloes are 2-0 at home on the year and last time out, defeated Mountain West-foe Utah State, 7-0. Last season, CU defeated the Cowgirls 6-1 down in Boulder.
