LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 20, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team closes its non-conference slate Wednesday on the road at Nebraska for an 11 a.m., Mountain Time tip-off. Wednesday will be the Cowgirls' final contest before the Holiday break before they begin Mountain West play December 28 at San Diego State.
Wednesday's contest will be streamed live on Big Ten Network Plus and can be heard across all 25 stations on the Cowgirl Radio Network with Keith Kelley on the call.
A LOOK AT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (4-4) is coming off its Finals Week break and last played Dec. 12 at home against North Dakota State, an impressive 71-45 victory for the Cowgirls. UW hit a season-high 11 3-pointers in the win, while the 45 points allowed are an opponent season-low for the Cowgirls.
Quinn Weidemann was one of four Cowgirls in double figures in the win, scoring a team-high 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including going 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Allyson Fertig scored 12 points in her first-career start while McKinley Bradshaw and Ola Ustowska each added 10 points. In her last two games, Ustowska is averaging 13.5 points per game and is shooting 9-of-12 from the field and has hit 7-of-9 from beyond-the-arc.
The Cowgirls' top-notch defense will be put to the test Wednesday as Nebraska enters the contest ranking sixth in the nation in scoring offense at 84.5 points per game and fourth with a 48-percent team field goal percentage. UW ranks second in the league and is in the top-45 in the country allowing opponents to score at just 54.2 points per contest. The Cowgirls allow opponents to shoot just 37.3 percent from the floor, a mark that ranks third in the league. Wyoming is doing an impressive job of defending hard without fouling, as the Cowgirls rank second in the country committing just 11 fouls per game.
SCOUTING NEBRASKA
The Cornhuskers enter Wednesday's contest receiving votes to be ranked in the latest top-25 polls. Nebraska's high-powered offensive attack is averaging 84.5 points per game so far on the season on 48-percent shooting from the floor and 39 percent from 3-point range. Nebraska's 29.6 margin of victory on the season is one of the best marks in the entire country.
Nebraska is led by Jaz Shelley's 14.5 points per game. Shelley is one of five Cornhuskers averaging at least nine points per game this season. Nebraska also has five players shooting at least 50 percent from the floor in 2021-22. Bella Cravens is averaging a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game and is second on the team, behind Shelley's 15, with 14 blocked shots.
The Huskers are a perfect 11-0 on the season, including a 7-0 mark at home. Amy Williams is in her sixth season as the head coach of the Cornhuskers. Wednesday will mark the third opponent in the last five contests for the Cowgirls featuring an opponent receiving votes in the lates women's top-25 poll.
SERIES AGAINST NEBRASKA
Wyoming is 0-6 all-time against the Cornhuskers with the last meeting coming in the Second Round of the 2006 WNIT in Laramie. The Cowgirls are 0-3 all-time in Lincoln and last played in Nebraska in 1997.
