Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Oct. 8, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowgirl golf squad opened play at the Denver Ron Moore Invitational on Friday. The Cowgirls are tied for 10^th in the team standings after the first day of play with two Cowgirls sitting in the top 20 in the individual standings. 
 
"We had a great start on the front nine and really came out confident especially on the greens." Head Women's Golf Coach Josey Stender said "Kyla and Megan played very tough and smart today. They both had great rounds amongst a very strong field. Tomorrow we need to continue to play patient but also aggressive when appropriate." 
 
Freshman Kyla Wilde had an outstanding first round as she shot a career best 69 (-3) in the opening round and is tied for fourth heading into day two. Fellow freshman Meghan Vogt also posted a strong first day finishing even at 72 which has her tied for 19^th.  Samantha Hui and Jessica Zapf both posted rounds of 76 (+4) and are tied for 62^nd. Morgan Ryan rounds out the Cowgirl lineup currently tied for 72^nd after having a first round score of 78 (+6). 
 
The Cowgirls posted a first round team score of 293 (+5) which is just three strokes away from tying the school record. Their strong round has the Cowgirls tied with Rutgers for tenth. East Tennessee State leads the 15-team field after the first day with a score of 271 (-17).
 
Four Cowgirls are competing as individuals and they are led by Michelle Nguyen who posted a first round of 79 (+7) and is currently tied for 76^th.  Riley McDole, Rachel Stoinski and Cristiana Ciasca all shot 82 (+10) to finish the first day tied for 81^st. 
 
The tournament will continue with the second round of play set to tee of at 8:30 a.m. MT.
