CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Cross Country teams raced against Colorado State University on Saturday morning at North Cheyenne Community Park in a dual meet. Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls ran 6K events.
Junior Katelyn Mitchem recorded a time of 21:30.4 to finish fourth overall and first for the Cowgirls while Kaylee Bentley notched a top-10 finish with a mark of 22:23.6.
Redshirt freshman Seth Bruxvoort placed fourth in the men's race to pace the Cowboys with a time of 18:22.6. Bruxvoort was followed by Albert Steiner (13th), Jerald Taylor (14th), Mason Norman (15th) and Gus McIntyre (17th) to round out the top five for Wyoming.
"Foundationally, we're happy and thankful to get a race in after so many months. There seemed to be a lot of excitement, nerves, and emotion from the long stint away from this kind of setting," Said Cross Country Head Coach Scott Dahlberg.
"Competitively, we showed our overall youth on both sides and had a mixture of performances. There were definitely individual bright spots that were impressive. For the women, Katelyn had an excellent race by putting herself in the mix and holding tough in the hard part. Kaylee Bentley has overcome some recent setbacks and had a very good return for where she's at. Tori has progressed greatly in the past year and we were impressed with her race. For the men, Seth ran very well, he's put in a great block of training and it showed today. Mason Norman, Gus, and Trevor had good runs for their first college races. CSU has strong teams, we faced some good competition and now we have a few weeks to get back to work."
In the first competition for Wyoming since the 2019 NCAA Mountain Region Championships Colorado State defeated the Cowgirls and Cowboys 17-46 and 18-45 respectively.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls are slated to compete next on Feb. 19th at the UNLV Cross Country Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
