LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 20, 2020) – This indoor track & field season, 20 Wyoming athletes etched their names in the UW record books by recording a mark that is among the top-10 in the program's history. There were two marks set at the very first meet of the season, and at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, six individuals and three relay teams all put themselves among the best in Wyoming history.
 
The season opened in December with the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Meet. At this competition, Shayla Howell recorded a long jump of 20 feet, 4.5 inches. That distance is third all-time at Wyoming, and Howell is one of just three Cowgirls to jump over 20 feet in the long jump in program history. At the same meet, Addison Henry had a shot put throw of 49-1 to rank seventh all-time at Wyoming. It was the best throw by a Cowgirl since Andrea Batt had a mark of 53-4.25 in 2004.
 
At the Air Force Invite, freshman Bryson Engebretson made his collegiate debut in the heptathlon. He was the first Cowboy in four seasons to compete in the event, and his final score of 4,604 points is eighth all-time at Wyoming.
 
During the middle of the season, a pair of Cowboy distance runners had strong races. Harry Ewing ran the second-fastest 3,000m race in school history, crossing the line in 8:07.0 at the Colorado Invite. Ewing is also the school's outdoor 3,000m steeplechase record holder, an accomplishment he made last season. Then, at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Michael Downey ran the 3,000m race in 8:09.13, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history.
 
There were multiple all-time performances at the Mountain West Championships, highlighted by Jasmyne Cooper's school record in the 800m distance. She crossed the line in the finals with a time of 2:09.20, breaking a three-year old school record. She is just the second Cowgirl to run that distance in under 2:10.
 
Paul Roberts was named the meet's Outstanding Performer, as he placed first in the 3,000m race and second in the 5,000m race. His time of 8:09.36 in the 3,000m run is the No. 5 time at Wyoming. Roberts is the fourth Cowboy to earn the Outstanding Performer honor, and the first since Mason Finley in 2013.
 
Kacey Doner had a strong championship for the Cowgirls, as she put up historic marks in both the 3,000m and 5,000m races. In the 3,000m run, Doner crossed the line in 9:45.00, which is fourth all-time in program history. In the 5,000m race, she finished in 17:10.91, which is the sixth-best time by a Cowgirl.
 
Christopher Henry, who set the school's 3,000m record a year ago, put up the fourth-best time in program history in the 5,000m race at this year's MW Championships. He crossed the finish line in 14:15.75.
 
In the field, Kirk Unland's weight throw of 66-3.25 is the 10^th-best throw in program history. He won the event with that time, making it back-to-back years that a Cowboy has won that event at the MW Championships.
 
The men's distance medley relay team of Ewing, Tyler Dahl, Tom Moulai and Jerald Taylor teamed up to finish the race in 9:56.16, which is the third-best time in program history. Dahl was also a part of the 4x400m relay team, along with Jacob Harthun, Brandon McGuire and Jace Marx, that put up the 10^th-best time in school history at 3:16.69. For the Cowgirls, the DMR team of Kaylee Kearse, Sophia Cunningham, Julia Kay O'Neill and Katelyn Mitchem finished their race in 11:52.84, which is the No. 5 time on the Cowgirl top-10 list.
