As a team, the Wyoming Cowboys maintained their 12th-place position in the field of 21 teams. Wyoming shot a second round score of 298 (+10) to go with its first round 294 (+6) and is in 12th place at 592 (+16). Auburn holds a three-stroke lead over Charlotte in the team competition. Auburn's two-day total is 563 (-13), while Charlotte sits at 566 (-10).
"We had some really good play again today from Tyler (Severin) and Dan (Starzinski)," said
Joe Jensen, UW Director of Golf. "Those two both moved up significantly today. This is kind of new territory for Tyler, but he has played very smart both of these first two rounds and has been very consistent. Dan also made a nice move today.
"I of course was hoping we would make a move as a team today, but we had some guys who were playing pretty well and then they each had a couple big numbers. Our Achilles heel right now is we're making some big mistakes that the other good teams are not making. If we can eliminate those tomorrow, we have a chance to have a really good round. It's as simple as that.
"This is a difficult golf course and it is early in our spring season, but we need to learn from those mistakes and we need to play smart under pressure. I like the attitude of our team, we just need to clean some things up. We want to have a really good round tomorrow to wrap up our own event."
The third and final round of the 2020 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate will be played on Sunday, with teams teeing off at 7 a.m., Pacific Time (8 a.m., Mountain Time).
The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate is being hosted by the University of Wyoming at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The Classic Club measures 7,305 yards and plays to a par of 72.
