COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 4, 2020) – The Cowgirl swimming and diving team earned dual victories over the Air Force Falcons, 165-135, and the Colorado State Rams, 184-116, on Friday night.
"The meet went really well for us today," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "We were really solid against both Air Force and Colorado State. The team swam really well from the beginning. Freshman
Sage Morton won the 500 and 1000 freestyle which was impressive. Everyone came out and had a solid day. Diving was also a standout with
Melissa Mirafuentes came away with a Zone qualifying score in the one-meter. Overall, it was nice to see the team race and have a great meet."
In the 200 medley relay, the team of
Katelyn Blattner,
Rylie Pilon,
Hannah Mclean-Leonard and
Lainee Jones placed second with a time of 1:44.20.
Emily Giles,
Hannah Linde,
Kira Crane and
Kylee Theiler placed fourth with a time of 1:46.57.
In the 1,000 freestyle, freshman
Sage Morton recorded a career-best time of 10:38.62 to place first. Junior
Maggie Clerkin followed with a mark of 10:44.76 and sophomore
Roxanna Ramirez in third with her time of 10:51.70.
Senior
Katelyn Blattner posted a season-best time of 1:53.21 in the 200 freestyle followed by Jones in a time of 1;54.21. Freshman
Brooke Ford had a mark of 1:56.04.
Giles recorded a mark of 58.05 in the 100 backstroke and sophomore Emily Green finished in eighth with a time of 1:01.88.
Pilon placed second the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.61, while freshman
Isabel Rich wash seventh in 1:06.80. Senior
Hannah Mclean-Leonard posted a time of 2:07.30 to finish second the 200 butterfly.
The Cowgirls went four, five, six in the 50 freestyle. Junior
Kira Crane went 24.26, followed by
Sani Carsrud in 24.31 and
Kali Franckowiak with a time of 24.41.
On the boards, the top finisher was sophomore
Melissa Mirafuentes with a NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 306.85 to finish first in the 3-meter. Junior
McKenna Houlihan was fourth with a dive of 237.30. In the 1-meter, Mirafuentes followed it up with a mark of 293.60. Houlihan was second with a score of 255.40.
Jones placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.65 followed by Carsrud in 52.71. Blattner took home the win the 200 backstroke in season-best time of 2:02.98
Rich was third in the 200 breaststroke by touching the wall in 2:23.13. Morton took first in her second event of the day in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.27.
Mclean-Leonard came back and won the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.64. Giles was second in the 200 IM by posting a time of 2:11.00 while junior
Andrea Niemann was fourth with a mark of 2:11.45.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Blattner, Carsrud, Franckowiak and Jones went a top time of 3:28.65.
The Cowgirls will be back in the pool tomorrow in a meet with Northern Colorado. It's scheduled for 12 p.m. MT in Greeley.
