LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sep. 18, 2019) –  The Wyoming women's swimming and diving squads will start the 2019-20 campaign at home as it hosts front range foe Northern Colorado on Friday. The meet will be held at Laramie High School and has a start time of 4 p.m. MT.
 
"This summer was great and we had a significant number of our team stay and train," Head Coach Dave Denniston said. "I think that energy and work ethic from the summer has really carried over and it's a good chance to see what kind of athletes we have and this will be a really good test."
 
For the second season in a row, the Cowgirls will begin the season a week before the annual Brown and Gold meet. With a large number of underclassmen headed in to the upcoming year, this meet will serve as an opportunity for the Cowgirls to find their stand-out athletes for the 2019-20 season.
 
The team is coming off of a season in which they finished sixth at the MW Championships. They welcome back two All-Mountain West performers from last season in junior Hannah Mclean-Leonard, who set a school record in the 100 butterfly, and sophomore Lainee Jones, who finished sixth in the 200 freestyle during the championships. UNC finished third at the WAC Championships and return two individual WAC Champions in junior Petra Kis and sophomore Maddy Moore.  
 
This will the third season in a row that the Cowgirls and Bears have faced off. The first two meetings were closely contested. During the 2017-18 season, UNC edged the Cowgirls in Laramie 126-117 with the meet coming down to the last event. Last year, the Cowgirls traveled to Greeley and responded with a 155-145 win over the Bears in another competitive meet.
 
After Friday, both the men's and women's squads will have a week off before competing in the annual Brown and Gold meet at Corbett Pool.
