Laramie, Wyo. (April 10, 2019) --  University of Wyoming senior John Murdock was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.  Murdock was honored for sharing the individual title at this week's Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Ariz.
     
He shot under par in each of the three rounds of the tournament 69 (-3), 67 (-5) and 67 (-5) for a tournament total of 203 (-13).  That tied him with Cole Madey of UCLA for first place. 
 
Murdock led the Cowboys to a fourth-place team finish in a field of 20 teams at the Cowboy Classic.  Among the teams the Cowboys finished ahead of were: Santa Clara, UT Arlington, Boise State, UC Santa Barbara and Gonzaga.  UCLA won the team title at this year's Cowboy Classic.
 
It was Murdock's second consecutive Top 10 finish of the season, as he placed 10th at the Oregon Duck Invitational on March 25 and 26.  He has a total of five Top 20 finishes during the 2018-19 season.  His other Top 20 finishes this season include: a sixth-place showing at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational; a 12th-place finish at the University of Denver Paintbrush Invite; and a 17th-place finish at the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitiatonal.
 
A native of Laramie, Wyo., Murdock's stroke average for the 2018-19 season is 71.97 strokes per round. 
 
This is the second time in Murdock's collegiate career that he finished first in a tournament.  He also captured the individual title at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational as a junior in the fall of 2017.  This is Murdock's second Mountain West Golfer of the Week/Month honor.  He was named the MW Golfer of the Month for September 2017 after posting that first-place finish at the Gene Miranda.
 
Murdock is the first Cowboy to earn MW Golfer of the Week/Month, since Drew McCullough won on March 21, 2018.  The Mountain West honors Golfers of the Month during the fall season and Golfers of the Week during the spring season.
