Minneapolis, Minn. (Feb. 21, 2019) – The Cowgirl Swimming and Diving squad is in seventh place after the second day of competition at the MW Championships. The Cowgirls have 241.5 points at the midway mark of the championship meet while Nevada leads the field with 530.5 points and San Diego State sits in a close second place with 528 points.
Senior
Samantha Burke would be the lone Cowgirl to qualify for the finals on the day after taking sixth in the 200 IM prelims with a time of 2:01.49. The time would be the fastest by a Cowgirl this season and just shy of Burke's sixth place mark of 2:01.35 in school history. In the finals, she would post a time of 2:01.60 which would earn her a seventh place finish and All-Conference honors. Freshmen
Catriona Clarke would also score points for the Cowgirls in this event placing 23
rd with a time of 2:05.01.
Sophomore
Katelyn Blattner got the day started off for Wyoming by putting on a strong performance in the first preliminary of the day. She would record a season-best time of 4:52.30 in the 500 freestyle which would earn her a ninth place finish. In the consolation finals, Blattner would post an even faster time touching the wall in a career-best 4:49.88 which is the third fastest time in school history and would give her a tenth place finish. Freshmen
Lainee Jones and junior
Talita Te Flan would also earn points for the Cowgirls taking 19
th and 22
nd, respectively.
Senior
Isobel Ryan was the only Cowgirl to earn points in the 50 free. In the C Final, she clocked a time of 23.14 which is a season-best for her in the event. Ryan secured a Top 20 finish as she placing 19
th.
In the last event of the day, the team of seniors Burke and Ryan plus sophomores
Rylie Pilon and
Hannah Mclean-Leonard recorded a season best time of 3:42.29 in the 400 medley relay which would earn them an eighth place finish in the event.
On the boards, senior
Peyton GrandPre once again reached the consolation finals in the 3-meter event after scoring a 273.50 in the prelims and quarterfinals. In the consolation finals, she would improve upon that score as she would tally a mark of 278.50 which would be good enough to earn her 12
th place. Fellow senior
CeeJay Harris fell just short of making the consolation finals taking 18
th with a score of 258.15. Freshman
McKenna Houlihan placed 20
th with a score of 247.90 and junior
Abigail Zoromski finished 28
th with a score of 220.20.
The Cowgirls are back in action tomorrow as the prelims will start at 10 a.m. MT and they will be competing in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 yard freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle relay. The diving squad will have the day off but will be back in action on Saturday to compete on the platform.
