MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Feb. 20, 2018) – The Cowgirl Swimming and Diving teams opened up the 2019 Mountain West Championship on Wednesday afternoon. Wyoming sits in seventh place with 113.50 points. Nevada leads all teams with 204 points followed by San Diego State and defending champion Boise State.
Senior
Peyton GrandPre posted a score of 243.95 in the 1-meter preliminaries to advance to the consolation finals. She would secure herself an 11
th place finish with a season-best score of 262.50. Fellow senior
CeeJay Harris nearly qualified with a score of 237.80. She was followed by freshman
McKenna Houlihan in 21
st (236.90) and junior
Abigail Zoromski in a tie for 22
nd (232.80).
The 200-medley relay and 800-freestyle relays rounded out day one of the conference championship. In the 200 medley, the team of seniors
Samantha Burke and
Isobel Ryan, sophomore
Hannah Mclean-Leonard and freshman
Phoebe Browne placed ninth-place with a season-best time of 1:41.17. They would finish almost four seconds faster than its previous best of 1:44.95.
Wyoming secured an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle relay. The team of sophomore
Katelyn Blattner and
Kristen Covello along with freshmen
Lainee Jones and
Sani Carsrud touched the wall in 7:23.42 to earn the eighth-place finish for the team.
Action will continue tomorrow with preliminaries for the 500-freestyle beginning 10 a.m. MT, followed by the 200 IM, 50 freestyle, three-meter diving plus the 400-medley relay. The evening session with the finals of each event are set to start at 5:30 p.m.
