LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 6, 2019) – The Cowgirl swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool on Friday and Saturday against the Colorado State Rams and Washington State Cougars in a double dual format. Friday is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. MT followed by a 10 a.m. start on Saturday. Both days will feature ten events and take place at Laramie High School.

"Our team is in a place where they are ready to start swimming fast. They have put in a lot of work over the last month so seeing some improved times this weekend will be huge for our team." Head Coach Dave Denniston said. "Between the three teams there should be a lot of tight races and it should be a lot of fun."

The Cowgirls will head into Friday with a 4-1 record on the year with their most recent victory coming over the New Mexico State Aggies by a final score of 178-122 last Saturday.  Freshman Olivia Staver won both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle, while fellow freshman Emily Giles took home victories in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200 IM.  Junior Hannah Mclean-Leonard came away with the wins in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. She recorded a season best time of 55.24 and a mark of 2:07.16. Sophomore Lainee Jones brought home a win in the 200 freestyle with her time of 1:53.23. Fellow sophomore Phoebe Browne also shined in the meet with two victories on the day. She won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.76 and a 1:06.11 mark in the 100 breaststroke.

CSU enters the week's dual meets with a 2-2 overall record. Its victories have come over Air Force, 127-115, and Northern Arizona, 144.5-97.5. The Cowgirls defeated Air Force 174-126 earlier this season. Last season, the Rams went 4-4 overall in dual action and finished the 2019 Mountain West Championships in seventh with 636.5 points. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 24, 2018 with Wyoming coming away with a 168.5-131.5 in Ft. Collins.

Washington State is 1-3 overall this season in dual action. Their lone win came against Idaho, 173-89. The Cougars went 4-7 last season and finished eighth at the PAC 12 Championships. The last time the two squads met was Nov. 9, 2018 with the Cowgirls earning a 140-122 victory.

After facing off against Colorado State and Washington State, both squads will be back in action Friday-Saturday, Nov. 15-16 for the Corbett Invite.
