LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 19, 2019) – The Wyoming men's and women's swimming teams will be back in the pool on Wednesday to participate in the Mizzou Invite. The three-day event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MT with preliminaries followed by finals at 5 p.m. The meet will take place at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia. There are ten schools participating in both swimming and diving, while three schools will have only divers. On Tuesday, several individuals will also participate in the Olympic Trials long course qualifier.

"Overall, we are looking to continue our improvement in the relays and be quicker in those times," head coach Dave Denniston said. "With a little rest for the student-athletes we are taking, I hope that we can get some times that are among the top eight in our conference and show them what we are made of."

Both squads were in the pool this past weekend for the Corbett Invite. Two pool records were broken and several personal bests were reached. In the first session, the first record to fall came in the 500 freestyle. Junior Katelyn Blattner touched the wall in a time of 4:57.41 to break the old mark of 4:58.43 set in 2016 by Adriana Palomino of New Mexico. Freshmen Andrew Rodriguez would have a solid performance in the morning session coming very close to breaking a pool record. In the 200 IM, Rodriguez would clock a career-best time of 1:51.84 falling just short of the record time of 1:51.39. The Cowgirl 400 freestyle relay team saved the best for the last event of the day. The team of junior Katelyn Blattner, sophomore Sani Carsrud, senior Kiana Junior and sophomore Lainee Jones clocked a season-best time of 3:25.69. The mark also breaks the pool record which was previously 3:28.28, set in 2014.
