LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 15, 2019) – The Wyoming Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming squads were in action at the Corbett Invite on Friday in Laramie.
In the first session, the first record to fall came in the 500 freestyle. Junior
Katelyn Blattner touched the wall in a time of 4:57.41 to break the old mark of 4:58.43 set in 2016 by Adriana Palomino of New Mexico. Freshmen
Andrew Rodriguez would have a solid performance in the morning session coming very close to breaking a pool record. In the 200 IM, Rodriguez would clock a career-best time of 1:51.84 falling just short of the record time of 1:51.39.
"Katelyn (Blattner) going 4:57 at altitude and breaking one of the best swimmer's in our league Adriana Palomino was pretty impressive way to start the meet," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "She carried the rest of that energy to the meet and her teammates the rest of the day."
In the 50 free, senior
PJ Musser had his bid for a pool record come up short. He would touch the wall with a season-best time of 20.45 falling just short of the record of 20.17. In the 50 freestyle for the Cowgirls, two swimmers would record season records. Sophomores
Sani Carsrud and
Kira Crane would tie for first in the event with a time of 24.02. It would be a new season best for both and it would be the fastest time of the season by a Cowgirl in the event.
"There were a lot of season-best marks today," Denniston added. "What we were looking for as coaches, a few people that were going to break out and show us something. Roxanna (Ramirez) in the 400 IM and Oskar (Iwarrson) had a very solid time in 50.20. Andrew (Rodriguez) had one of the best performances I've seen at this pool. The people we were looking for results from showed us that. Overall, we are in a good spot and saw some fast swimming."
