LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 14, 2019) – The Wyoming men's and women's swimming teams will be back in the pool on Friday and Saturday to host the Corbett Invite. Friday is scheduled for two sessions with one to begin at 10 a.m. MT followed by a 4 p.m. start. Saturday is set for 10 a.m. Both days will take place at Corbett Pool.

"Everyone is getting a good amount of rest this week and we are getting fired up to break pool records at Corbett," head coach Dave Denniston said. "We are looking for faster times than we have seen up to this point over the weekend and carry it over to the Missouri Invite. Overall, it's a good opportunity for our younger athletes to see how our program and system works. Hoping to see some breakout performances."

The Cowgirls will head into Friday with a 5-2 dual record on the year with their most recent victory coming over the Colorado State Rams, 202-151, last Saturday.  In the 200 medley relay, the team of freshman Emily Giles, sophomore Phoebe Browne, junior Hannah Mclean-Leonard and sophomore Sani Carsrud got it started for the Cowgirls with a first place finish and a time of 1:45.36. In the next event, it would be a one-two finish for the Cowgirls. Senior Daniela Luna Rocha led the way with a first place finish in the 1650 freestyle clocking a final time of 17:32.47. Freshman Olivia Staver would place second with a time of 18:00.08. The Cowgirls would get their next one-two finish in the 200 freestyle led by a solid performance from sophomore Lainee Jones who clocked a season-best time of 1:51.75. Junior Katelyn Blattner would follow closely behind in second with a time of 1:53.37. The Cowgirls would end Friday night with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Blattner, Carsrud, Jones and Mclean-Leonard would out touch both Washington State and Colorado State to take the win in a season-best time of 3:30.53. Blattner had another strong showing with a first place performance and a season-best time of 2:01.44 in the 200 backstroke. Mclean-Leonard continued her strong showing in the 100 butterfly with a top place finish and time of 55.94. Carsrud recorded a second place finish in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 52.92.

The Cowboys have not competed in an event since it faced the Colorado School of Mines on Oct. 25. In that meet, the Cowboys looked strong in a 111.5-93.5 victory over the Orediggers. The men are looking to keep momentum going after winning eight events. Several Cowboys were solid in the dual meet including senior Tyler Klatt who took home victories in two events. Klatt won the 200 IM in a season-best time of 1:55.12 followed up by a victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.42. Sophomore Ryan Netzel touched the wall in a season-best time of 9:51.73 in the 1,000 freestyle and senior PJ Musser placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.18.

Both squads will be back in action on Wednesday to begin the Missouri Invite. The competition runs through Friday in Columbia.
