Wyoming Golf Completes Fall Season at Las Vegas Collegiate

Cowgirls improve final round score

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (Oct. 29, 2019) – Behind career-best rounds from senior Erin Sargent and junior Caitlyn Skavdahl, the Wyoming women's golf team closed out its fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Tuesday afternoon at the par-72, 6,277-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club.
 
Sargent finished with a 3-under 69 which ties her career low in a round. It's also fourth best all-time in the Cowgirl record book. After finishing with rounds of six-over 78 and seven-over 79, she would turn in a three day total of 10-over 226 and a 28th place finish.
 
Skavdahl had a career best final round of 2-under 70. Her previous best was a 1-over 72. She finished with a three day total 13-over 229 (75-84-70) and moved up to finish in a tie for 41st.
 
"I'm thrilled with the tremendous 27 shot improvement today," head coach Josey Stender said. "The team knew they had so much more in them and wanted to end the fall season on a positive note. I'm very proud of the leadership by Caitlyn and Erin especially to shoot their career low rounds. We have learned a lot over the fall season and have a lot to be proud of. I know the team is looking forward to a productive off season."
 
Wyoming saved its best round of the tournament for last, carding a 5-over 293 which is the team's second best score for a round during the fall and ties for sixth best in school history. The Cowgirls finished at 62-over 926. UNLV took home the team title with a three day total 15-over 879. Individually, Tereza Melecka of East Tennessee State and Elina Saksa of UNLV finished tied for first with a 4-under 212.
 
Senior Kaylee Knadler had a final round of 5-over 77 and had a combined three day total of 16-over 232 (76-79-77) to finish in a tie for 58th.  
 
Sophomore Michelle Nguyen turned in a third round score of 5-over 77 to finish 27-over 243, while fellow sophomore Cristiana Ciasca carded a 7-over 79 for a final score of 299-over 245.
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on Monday, Feb. 11 to begin the Battle at the Rock Tournament in Riverside, Calif.
