LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 25, 2019) – It was another solid day for the Wyoming tennis squad Friday at day three of the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament hosted by UNLV. On the day, the Cowgirls picked up three victories, including two singles and a doubles win.
"As a team we learned what we need to work on," said assistant coach Erica Medlin.
"We have a very tough mountain region and need to stay steady throughout the matches. We had moments of great tennis - now it's time to get ready for the Spring. We will keep learning our style every day."
The doubles team of Oleksandra Balaba and Clara Mansart earned their second consecutive victory at the ITAs as they pulled out an 8-7 win over Weber State's Morett and Kuo.
Ana Fernandez won in her consolation singles match against Ksenia Shikanova of Nevada, winning a thriller, 4-6, 6-2 and 1-0 (10-8). Balaba also had a tiebreak victory in her match, as she defeated Daniela Cozzi of Southern Utah, 6-3, 4-6 and 1-0 (10-4).
Ana Royo was on the wrong end of her tiebreak, as she fell to Hsiang-Wen Huang of New Mexico, losing 6-4, 3-6 and 0-1 (6-10). Zarah Mughal also lost her singles match, losing 6-2 and 6-0 to BYU's Emma Jewell.
