LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 11, 2019) – After 110 minutes of action, the Wyoming soccer team (5-4-4, 2-2-2 MW) and the San Jose State Spartans (4-6-3, 2-2-1 MW) couldn't settle anything and played to a 0-0 draw after double overtime on Friday afternoon in Laramie.

It took a while for each team to get going in the game with four fouls called in the early going of the match. Wyoming tried to push the pace and had shots by redshirt freshman Jamie Tatum and senior Michaela Stark blocked and sail high. San Jose State got its first look by Jennifer Orozco at the 25:21 mark which was also shutdown. The Cowgirls continued to be aggressive over the last part of the half outshooting the Spartans 5-1 but with no end result. Goalie Ariana Romero would stop three of those scoring chances against Wyoming. Despite recording seven shots in the first 45 minutes, the Cowgirls would head in to the locker room all tied up at 0-0.

In the second half, San Jose State came out strong and really pushed the pace on its side of the field. Beginning in the 55th minute, they would record three straight shots over a five minute stretch which came up empty. Wyoming had a look with a shot from Sydney Miller that was saved by Romero at the 59:56 mark. The Spartans outshot the Cowgirls 6-1 the remainder of the half that included two saves by goalie Riley Furbush.  Even after 90 minutes of action, the two teams remained in a tie. The Spartans had nine shots compared to two by the Cowgirls and two corner kicks.

In the first overtime, the Spartans had four chances in the first five minutes but were unable to connect. Freshman Katelyn Barner had looks in the 97th and 99th minutes which were saved by Romero. With the clock winding down, a late shot by fellow freshman Keelie Wortmann would go wide. The Cowgirls couldn't piece anything together in the second ten minutes with the Spartans getting three shots. The game would end in a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes of play.

"I thought our effort and fight in the match was very good against a solid, physical team," head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "On the attack, I felt we were just one pass away, seemed to always miss that last chance, maybe too much in front or behind. If we can clean that up, we can turn that from a tie in to a win. We had several players step up and play key minutes today. The effort was there and we need to focus on Fresno for Sunday. They are a good team and we need to take care of business."

Wortmann finished with a team high three shots while three others had two chances apiece. Goalies Hannah Lee played 45 minutes in net and Furbush 65 minutes and had a combined four total saves for UW.  Romero was in net for San Jose State, and made five saves in 110 minutes. Wyoming ended up being outshot by 18-12 for the contest. Both teams combined for 35 fouls.

The Cowgirls will be back on the pitch Sunday against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. MT at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
