LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Jan. 26, 2019) – The University of Wyoming men's and women's swimming and diving team earned a split contest on Saturday against the UNLV Rebels. The Cowboys earned a 156-140 win while the Cowgirls lost in a close one 158-141.
The Cowgirls split the events on the day with UNLV. Senior
Isobel Ryan started things off with a 56.01 time for a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman
Andrea Niemann finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.37 to earn the Cowgirls its second event victory of the day. Niemann also took home a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing in 2:23.19. Sophomore
Hannah Mclean-Leonard then earned the Cowgirls a victory in the 100-yard butterfly finishing in 54.95. In the 200-yard IM, fellow freshman Erin Eccelston and
Catriona Clarke finished in second and third place with times of 2:06.25 and 2:07.47. The Cowgirls also took home the 400-yard freestyle relay with a first-place spot by
Sani Carsrud,
Samantha Burke,
Lainee Jones and Ryan with a time of 3:26.74.
Senior
CeeJay Harris earned a victory on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 263.93 followed by fellow senior
Peyton GrandPre who behind her in third place with a score of 245.70.
The Cowboys went home winning nine of 16 events against UNLV led by freshman
Ryan Netzel finishing with a time of 9:36.93 in the 100-yard freestyle begin the day. Sophomore
Tyler Klatt would take first and junior
Jack Scafuri would take third in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 50.05 and 53.22. Senior
Liam Holt then earned UW a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 56.09. Fellow senior
David Murphy and freshman
James Bouda took the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 20.85 and 21.10 respectively. Murphy placed first in the 100-yard free while Bouda following in third, the two finished with times of 45.71 and 46.46.
In the diving events, senior
Ryan Russi earned victories on the 1-meter with a score of 291.08. He placed second on the 3-meter board with a season-high 314.70.
Brendan Byrnes would followed placing third on both boards with a score of 259.65 an 284.40, respectively.
The Wyoming men's and women's diving program will return to action on Friday at the Air Force Invite.
