LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 23, 2018) – The Wyoming volleyball team got off to a 2-0 start to MW play this weekend, tallying sweeps over San Jose State and Nevada.
How They Fared
W at San Jose State, 3-0
Wyoming was able to overwhelm the Spartans on defense, recording 14 team blocks and holding San Jose State to a .018 hitting percentage—thanks in part to 26 attack errors. Six Cowgirls recorded two or more blocks, led by
Jackie McBride with a career-high-tying eight and
Reed Copeland with six. Sophomore
Faith Waitsman recorded a new career high with five for the match. Two Pokes reached double digits in kills in
Madi Fields (15) and
Halie McArdle (13).
Once again, the Cowgirls led a balanced offensive attack, with six Pokes recording multiple kills in the match and four recording five or more. Senior
Emily Lewis led Wyoming in kills for a fourth-straight match, recording seven along with two service aces, four blocks and five digs. McArdle was close behind Lewis with six for the match and no errors on a .500 hitting percentage. Setter
Cori Aafedt led the way in assists, racking up 15.

The Cowgirls were led on offense by
Halie McArdle, who racked up 11 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Six Cowgirls recorded four or more kills to combine for a .215 hitting percentage on 42 kills. With 20 assists, setter
Cori Aafedt recorded her eighth game of 20 assists or more this season, followed by
Marissa Hines who also reached double digits with 13.
Senior
Reed Copeland was once again impressive defensively for the Pokes, contributing on 11 of the team's 12 blocks, which was the most by a Cowgirl in a three-set match this season. Junior libero
Madi Fields was impressive on the defensive end as well, recording 21 digs—her fifth game of 20 digs or more this season.
