LARAMIE, Wyo. (Aug. 8, 2018) – In its only preseason game of the season, the Wyoming women's soccer will face the UCF Knights on Friday in Orlando, Fla. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. MT.
"Obviously, we are excited, one to get to Florida and go to compete against a great team in UCF,' head coach
Pete Cuadrado said. "The rankings came out today in the preseason poll and they were ranked 16
th. We know we have our hands full. It will be a great match-up and they will show us what our strengths and weaknesses are, which is what we are looking for."
Wyoming returns six starters and 16 letterwinners from last season's squad that went 8-9-2 overall and 4-6-1 in the Mountain West. In all, the squad consists of six seniors, five juniors and sophomore and 13 freshmen.
Entering his seventh season at the helm, Cuadrado has an overall record of 54-51-15 during his tenure at UW and a 29-26-6 mark in league play. Senior
Brittney Stark was selected to the All-Newcomer team a season ago.
Several individuals will be looked upon to contribute during the 2018 campaign, including the six returning starters. Stark completed her junior campaign with a team-high eight goals, 18 points and three game winning goals. Fellow senior
Taylor Burton recorded three goals and had two game winning goals, while senior
Morgan McDougal finished with one goal and one assist in her first season with the program. Junior
Michaela Stark added two goals and one assist followed by senior
Jessie Gentle with two assists and three shots.
UCF returns six starters and 12 letterwinners from a squad that went 13-2-3 overall during the 2017 campaign. They enter the year ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll after ended last season ranked eighth. The Knights went 7-0-2 to finish first in the American Athletic Conference, before claiming the AAC Tournament title. This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
