BOISE, Idaho (April 28, 2018) – For the third straight season, the Wyoming tennis team (12-8 overall, 3-2 MW) had its season ended by the top-seeded UNLV Lady Rebels (16-5 overall, 4-0 MW) with a 4-2 loss in the semifinals of the 2018 MW Championship on Saturday afternoon.
 
In doubles action, it was a battle between the two teams. UNLV struck first with Isumi Asano and Samantha Li beating sophomore Ana Tkachenko and Myiah Scott, 6-0. The duo of senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Milka Genkova earned a hard fought win, 7-6 (7-2) against Anna Bogoslavets and Juliet Zhang. The point came down to the pair of juniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg against Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang. It went back and forth until the two teams were all even at six. The tiebreaker combined for 22 points as the Cowgirls came away with the 7-6 (12-10) win to take the early 1-0 lead.  
 
UNLV earned its first point of the day at the sixth spot in the singles line-up. Li defeated Scott in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Asano with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Genkova.  Stencel won the second point of the day for UW with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Zhu. Unfortunately, the Lady Rebels took the next couple of matches to earn the victory. Koonik dropped her match, 6-4, 6-4, against Huang, while van der Ploeg lost, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, against Bogoslavets.  
 
Wyoming ends the season with a 12-8 overall mark and 3-2 in league action.
