BREMERTON, Wash. – Wyoming men's golf moved into a tie for third on Saturday at the 2018 Mountain West Championship after a round of 295 (+5) on the Olympic Course. The Cowboys tied for the third-best round of the day and made a larger jump up the leaderboard than any other team.
Senior
Glenn Workman charged into the top 10 on Saturday with a round of 69 (-3). On a day that saw only eight competitors shoot under par, Workman lit up the Olympic Course with six birdies to tie for the fourth-best individual score of the day. He is now tied for seventh overall at -2.
Sophomore
Dan Starzinski once again posted UW's second-lowest score of the day in round two, carding a 73 (+1). After an even-par round yesterday, Starzinski is now alone in 15th at +1. Starzinski is three-under on the par-five holes thus far, tied for sixth-best of any player in the field.
Senior
Drew McCullough, junior
John Murdock and senior
Arron Lickteig all recorded rounds of 75 (+3). McCullough moved to even-par overall for the tournament, tied for 11th, while Lickteig is tied for 31st at +7 and Murdock is tied for 39th at +9.
"I'm proud of how our guys played the composure they showed today," UW head coach
Joe Jensen said. "It rained, the wind blew and it's a tough course. It's a championship venue. It's all about staying within yourself and just playing hard. Out here you can get frustrated so fast. You have to hit the right shots and make putts, and we did that today. The team that does it best tomorrow is going to win, simply put."
Wyoming's biggest strength through two rounds has been its excellent play on the par-three holes. While no other team in the field has played them better than +7, the Cowboys are playing the par-three holes at one-under. Workman, McCullough and Murdock are each one-under, tied for the third-best mark of any competitor.
UNLV continues to lead the pack at -4 overall for the tournament. Second-place Colorado State is at +1, five strokes ahead of Fresno State and Wyoming. Nevada trails by two strokes at +8, followed by sixth-place San Jose State at +9.
The Cowboys will begin teeing off at 11 a.m. MT tomorrow morning, playing with fifth-place Nevada. Live stats are available at the link above. Tee times for tomorrow will be posted at GoWyo.com once they are set as well. Follow @wyo_golf on twitter for updates.
