Two Pokes Secure NCAA Bids on Final Day of Zone E Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sophomore divers Karla Contreras and Scotia Mullin each earned a spot at the NCAA Championships to compete on the platform after finishing in the top five Wednesday night at the Zone E Championships. Both divers qualify in the event for the second consecutive season.

Contreras scored a 260.65 in the prelims to make the final round of 18. The top eight would earn an NCAA bid, and Contreras finished comfortably in fifth with a total of 527.80 points. Contreras is the first Cowgirl in history to earn an NCAA bid in all three diving events in back-to-back seasons. Junior CeeJay Harris scored a 182.10 in the prelims and did not advance to the finals.  

The top seven men earned spots from Zone E to compete at the NCAA Championships on the platform. Both Mullin and junior Ryan Russi advanced to the final after finishing fourth and 16th, respectively. Mullin moved up to second with a total of 730.55, while Russi finished 16th tallying 533.45 points. At last year's NCAA Championship, Mullin finished 14th to earn All-American honorable mention, the second Cowboy in school history to receive All-American accolades in the event.

The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will run March 15-17 in Columbus, Ohio. The NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be the following week, March 22-24, in Minneapolis, Minn.
