LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 30, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team (8-6 overall, 0-1 MW) had its winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss against the Boise State Broncos (10-7 overall, 2-0 MW) on Friday afternoon in Laramie.
 
"We got beat today. Boise State came in here and played the way they wanted to play," head coach Dean Clower said. "They took chances when they needed and did a good job. Elisa and Tessa played some of the best singles tennis I've seen this spring. We competed today, we just didn't execute like I know we can or play our style."
 
In doubles action, Broncos got the early momentum by winning two matches. Nancy Menjivar and Vanessa Timm opened up with a 6-3 win over sophomore Ana Tkachenko and freshman Myiah Scott, while senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Milka Genkova couldn't overcome an early deficit to fall against Wilhelmina Palmer and Lilian Palmer, 6-3. Juniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg were all tied up at four with Anja Dokic and Wiktoria Nosek.
 
Koonik put Wyoming on the board first with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Hanna Kantenwein. The teams then traded the next two matches to even up the score at two all. Genkova was defeated in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, by Palmer, while van Der Ploeg earned a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win against Poling. Unfortunately, the Broncos would earn wins at the one and sixth positions to clinch the match. Stencel lost a tough three-set match, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2, against Dokic followed by Timms beating Scott, 6-0, 6-0.
 
UW will close out its home season tomorrow morning against the Utah State Aggies.  The match is set for 8:30 a.m. MT at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts. It will be the final home match for senior Magdalena Stencel.
