Cowgirl Tennis Set to Begin Mountain West Action

LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 28, 2018) – Wyoming Cowgirl tennis will kick off the 2018 Mountain West season with its final home matches of the season. The Cowgirls welcome the Boise State Broncos on Friday followed by a Saturday morning match against the Utah State Aggies. Friday's match is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT while the following morning will begin at 8:30 a.m. Both will take place at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.  
       
"I'm glad we get to open up Mountain West play up at home this weekend," head coach Dean Clower said. "Boise State is a deep team and loaded at the top. They will play solid doubles and it will be a real battle. Utah State will a tough out as well. Both the teams have probably two of the best players in the league. We need to work on and clean some stuff up this week but we will be ready to go."

The Cowgirls enter the weekend with an 8-5 record overall earning a 6-1 win over Weber State on Friday and a 5-2 victory against Creighton on Sunday. Sophomore Milka Genkova currently has a 21-5 overall mark and is 9-2 this spring. Juniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg are 14-7 and 12-8, respectively. Senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Ana Tkachenko are 8-3 overall in doubles action.
       
The Broncos are 8-7 overall and 1-0 in league play this season. This will be the tenth meeting between the two schools. UW leads the series 5-4. The last time the two teams met was April 2, 2017. The Cowgirls earned a 4-3 victory in Boise. The Broncos are coached by Beck Roghaar who is in his seventh season with the program.
 
The Aggies come in to the week with a 10-8 mark overall and will play CSU prior to facing Wyoming. This will be the seventh meeting between the two schools. UW leads the series 6-0. The last time the two teams met was March 31, 2017. The Cowgirls earned a 7-0 victory in Logan. Utah State is coached by Sean McInerney who is in his fifth season with the program.
