BOULDER, Colo. – With victories in multiple event areas and a number of solid marks across the board, the University of Wyoming track & field squad put together a balanced performance on Saturday at the Colorado Invitational.
Jerayah Davis,
Christopher Henry and
Emily Person all notched individual event victories for Wyoming while a number of Pokes recorded personal bests in various events.
"I felt like a majority of the team competed really well today," Wyoming head coach
Bryan Berryhill said following the conclusion of the meet. "Up to this point, it's been about training and staying healthy. We've done that well as a team. Now, the focus shifts toward sharpening up and getting in competition mode. Overall, I'm very happy with the performance today. Across the board, we had a lot of good things happen."
Person continued her emergence as one of the Cowgirls' key runners with a career-best performance in the women's unseeded mile on Saturday. Person clocked an altitude-adjusted time of four minutes, 56.45 seconds, the no. 5 time on the UW all-time list for the event and tops in Saturday's field of 31 runners. Four entries on the UW all-time top 10 list for the women's indoor mile belong to current Cowgirls – Person,
Lauren Hamilton,
Calbi Ausmann and
Kerry White. Person has entered the UW record books for a different event in two consecutive weeks.
"Emily (Person) is really running well right now," Berryhill said. "She's confident. (Assistant coach Whitney) Henderson is doing a good job getting her ready to go and getting her to believe in her capabilities and what she's able to accomplish on the track."
Henry joined Person as another distance runner to pick up a victory on Saturday. The redshirt freshman and Laramie native posted an altitude-adjusted time of 14:43.73, winning his first-ever appearance in the 5,000 meters as a Cowboy. Henry won the race by over seven seconds. Sophomore
Daniel Hintz also contributed a solid performance for the Cowboy distance crew, taking fourth in a field of 47 runners in the men's unseeded mile with a personal-best time of 4:10.77.
