SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Cowgirl Swimming and Diving sits in third place after the first day of the 2018 Mountain West Championship. Wyoming amassed 161 points through the first three events, trailing San Diego State and Nevada each with 189 points.

Karla Contreras and junior
CeeJay Harris both advanced out of the one-meter preliminaries to kick-off the first day of events, with Contreras placing fourth (281.97) and Harris placing eighth (262.86). In the final, Contreras finished second with a mark of 312.84 behind defending champion Sharae Zheng of Nevada. Harris placed fourth with a career-best score of 289.20. It was her highest finish in a Mountain West Championship event of her career.

The 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay rounded out day one of the conference championship. In the 200 medley relay, the Cowgirls placed fourth with a season-best time of 1:39.42. Junior

Wyoming's 800 freestyle relay team finished seventh with a time of 7:20.63. Freshman

Kelly Sheldon made up the team, with Blattner swimming the fastest leg.
UW leads fourth-place Boise State, the defending champion, by 26 points after day one. Tomorrow's slate will feature the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and three-meter diving.
Race preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. MT, followed by the three-meter prelims at 11:30. The evening session with the finals of each event are set to start at 5:30 p.m.
