LARAMIE, Wyo. (December 5, 2018) – After concluding a strong cross country season, the Wyoming track & field teams set their sights on the upcoming indoor season, as the Pokes host the annual Power Meet on Friday, Dec. 7. The meet, which begins with field events at 4 p.m. in the War Memorial Fieldhouse, will feature athletes from Wyoming and Northern Colorado. The track events are slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Last season at the Power Meet, the Cowboys and Cowgirls claimed 17 event titles against Northern Colorado. Senior
Ja'la Henderson started her All-American junior campaign by winning the long jump, while senior
Allegra Carson won the long jump. Sophomore
William Nolan began his stellar freshman campaign with a triple jump title of his own.
Wyoming swept the four throwing events, as four different athletes won the men's and women's shot put and weight throw. The Cowboys and Cowgirls took the top two spots in the 55-meter dash, while Wyoming won both the men's and women's 55m hurdles. Sophomore
McCade Johnson won the 400m race, while the Cowboys also won the 200m dash. The Cowgirls won the 600m run, as well as both the 4x400m and 4x800m relays, while the Cowboys came out victorious in the 4x800m relay.
This season-opening meet will be many fans' introductions to some of the 40 newcomers to the squad. However, many familiar faces remain on the team as the Cowboys return six all-Mountain West performers, and the Cowgirls see three all-MW finishers returning.
Admission to the event is free, and a full schedule of events is available at GoWyo.com.
